Watercolour Mounted on Cradled Panel with Floater Frame, 2024
First Place in the 2024 Works on Paper Exhibition held at the prestigious Federation Gallery, Vancouver, BC.
Finalist in Spash 26: The Best of Watercolor
Perplexed but Not Despairing is a deeply personal self-portrait, painted in a season of turbulent change. After years of city life, relentless busyness, and crushing pressure, I found myself unraveling—my health, mind, and relationships crumbling under the weight of stress. I had no choice but to step back and reassess.
Inspired by Corrie ten Boom’s words, “If the devil cannot make us bad, he will make us busy,” this painting marks my decision to halt—to choose simplicity over striving and shed the unnecessary adornments of a lavish but burdened life.
Leaving full-time work and embracing a slower, more intentional path allowed me to heal, reconnect, and breathe again. This piece is not about despair, but about returning to one’s roots and true loves—finding hope that remains steady and unshakable, even in the unknown. My life is now remarkably richer with a lot less.
