My Father's House

15x22, Unframed Watercolour on Cotton, 2026

I painted this after spending time with a family who welcomed me into their home and shared their story. What stayed with me was seeing how Mum and Dads different strengths—once a source of tension—became the foundation of their partnership. When their first child arrived, Mum cared for the daily needs while Dad was literally building the house, each preparing in their own way for their family to flourish.

This painting honours the quiet dignity of a father's work: the responsibility, the steady effort to create a safe place for those he loves. Their childs peaceful gaze, secure in his parents' arms, moved me deeply—a picture of belonging.

It's also a reminder that the best homes are built on love, intention, and the kind of care that makes us feel safe. For me, it echoes a deeper belief: that we are each being prepared a place where we truly belong, both now and always.
