Now I have had more breathing room, it's been nice to reflect on my last year. I've learnt and grown a lot in my day job, and I know that I have so much more to do.
2021 saw me move from being a big fish in a small pond to being an anchovy in the open water. Working in the city and its shiny lights were glistening with excitement and novelty, but it didn't take too long for the high to wear off. With the city came new pressures, new standards and larger demands. It has taken me about 18 months for things to get “easier”.
I've recently learnt that I don't realize I need as much help as I do, and I've had to relearn new strategies to work with people, to play with their strengths. I'm deeply glad that I'm at a place where I know I don't need to be an expert or don't need to be strong at everything, and have been at a place where I can help maximize my “productivity” by allowing others to be strong where I am weak. My job as a leader is to look after, care and help those that I'm responsible for to realize their own goals and to make a way to provide them with as much opportunity as possible.
